NEW DELHI: Chasing a 186-run target, Suresh Raina led the Super Kings chase in superb fashion after they lost early wickets in their Champions League T20 match in Johannesburg.

Scorecard

Subramaniam Badrinath (6) fell victim to Moises Henriques as he failed to read a slower delivery and nicking it to keeper Brad Haddin in the process.

Meanwhile, Raina scored a quick fire 28-ball half century to hold the Super Kings chase steady right after the Sixers gained some respite when they dismissed the dangerous duo of Faf du Plessis and Michael Hussey in quick succession.

Chasing a 186-run target, Du Plessis (43) and Hussey (16) recovered when they put up a swift 61-run partnership for the second wicket after the early loss of Murali Vijay.

Vijay (1) was comprehensively bowled by Mitchell Starc and he never looked comfortable as his weakness was exploited to the fullest when Starc dismissed the opener in fabulous fashion.

Earlier, Henriques fought back for the Sydney Sixers to help them set a colossal 186-run target for Super Kings.

Henriques (49*) put up a splendid 75-run partnership along with Steven Smith for the fifth wicket, which played elementary in the Sixers setting the mammoth target.

Henriques dominated the Chennai bowlers with his swashbuckling knock that included 5 boundaries and 3 sixes and came at a time when it was needed the most.

Earlier, Sixers were joggled in the middle overs when a double strike by Ravichandran Ashwin helped the Super Kings gain a little momentum.

Ashwin first dismissed the Sixers skipper Brad Haddin (20), who was sent back after Ben Hilfenhaus took a brilliant catch, and then struck to get the better of a bemused Nic Maddinson's stumps.

Previously, Australian star Shane Watson fell short of scoring a half century as he was run out in the Champions League T20 match against Chennai at the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg.

Watson (46) carried his superb form from the ICC World T20 as he played a gem of an innings with 4 boundaries and 2 sixes to blast the Chennai bowling attack.

His partnership with fellow opener Michael Lumb was broken when Ravindra Jadeja struck with his very first ball of the match to dismiss the southpaw.

Lumb (18) was completely deceived by Jadeja's swinger and was caught plumb in front of the wicket right after he and Watson put up an impressive 50-run partnership to get Sydney Sixers off to a decent start.

Earlier, Chennai Super Kings skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni won the toss and decided to bowl against Sydney Sixers.

Led by Haddin, the Big Bash champions are a decent line-up even though the skipper, who is struggling to get back into the national fold after an injury layoff, would also be a key player for the side.

Chennai, on the other hand, have a few issues to deal with as Dhoni will come into the tournament as a man under scrutiny after being an uninspiring leader during India's doomed World T20 campaign.
