MACAU: After a blistering 63 in the opening round, Gaganjeet Bhullar added a more modest three-under 68 to move to 11-under 131 after the second round of the $750,000 Venetian Macau Open on Friday.

He held a three-shot lead over Thai newcomer Thitiphun Chuayprakong.

Just like the opening day, the 24-year-old Bhullar had a bogey on the opening hole, but this time it was the tenth, from where he teed off. He then birdied the 13th, second, third and sixth holes at the Macau Golf and Country Club.

Among the other Indians, Shiv Kapur made a smart move up from overnight 34th to tied 15th with a round of 67 that now puts him at five-under for 36 holes. Himmat Rai added a 70 to go to three-under. Ajeetesh Sandhu added a 71 to his first round 70 and at one-under 141, he was tied 40th.

Missing the cut were Anirban Lahiri, who after a tough round of 77 dropped to three-over at 145, and SSP Chowrasia (75), who is six-over at 148.

Bhullar said, "It was not as good as yesterday but considering the conditions right now, it's not a bad score. I could have done much better but there is a lot of golf left. Hit the ball good but had some bad luck. Had two or three lip outs."

Bhullar was delighted to maintain his rich vein of form where he has won once and finished second and ninth in his last five starts.

"It always feels good to play in the leader group week after week," he said.

"It proves the standard of golf is improving. It'll be nice. I'm looking forward to playing for the weekend. I'll take the same strategy as the first two days. I'm just going to stick to my routine and my process and see what happens this weekend," said the three-time Asian Tour winner.

"I have done that in the past, shot two to three good numbers one after the other. That was in my mind that I can go low every day. It was just a frame of mind. After yesterday's putting, I was quite positive I would do well. Three under against yesterday's score, it's not that great but I'll take it," Bhullar said.

He added, "This is the cut off for the HSBC Champions. As of now, I'm looking good. I can only hope that I can get in. I played in 2009 in Shanghai Sheshan. It's a great event. All the WGCs are ranked right after the majors. It'll be my luck if I can get into that. I'm looking forward to CIMB (Classic) and HSBC (Champions)."

The 20-year-old Thitiphun moved into contention with an impassive bogey-free 66 for second place at nine-under 133, the same as Prom Meesawat.

Thitiphun, one of many emerging young Thais on the Asian Tour, scrambled well to keep the bogeys off his card as he moved two shots of the leader.

Filipino star Angelo Que (66), Thai ace Thongchai Jaidee (68), Bangladeshi Siddikur (68), Adilson Da Silva of Brazil (66) and Australia's Kieran Pratt (68) are a further shot back in tied fourth in the event which is title sponsored for the first time by The Venetian Macao-Resort-Hotel.

Chinese legend Zhang Lian-wei, a two-time Macau Open champion, maintained his proud record of making every cut since 1998 with a 72 leaving him on 141, the same score as title holder Chan Yih-shin of Chinese Taipei, who fired a 68.

Veteran Welshman Ian Woosnam, a former Masters Tournament winner, carded a 72 to lie on 140. The halfway cut was set at 143 with 76 players progressing into the final two rounds.
