Stuart Binny (14) was the third man to fall. He was trapped leg before by young pacer Laxmi Shukla in the 11th over.
Earlier, Pacer Brett Lee gave Kolkata Knight Riders a good start by dismissing Royals star Shane Watson in the third over with just 11 runs on board.
After hitting a boundary off Lee in the extra cover, Watson (5) repeated the same shot on the consecutive delivery only to get caught by Eoin Morgan at short extra cover.
Rajat Bhatia bowled out Rahul Dravid (17) to give Rajasthan second blow just before they crossed 50-mark.
Dravid slammed two boundaries during his 20-ball knock and shared 35-run stand for the second wicket before falling to Bhatia in the 8th over
The hosts will be boosted by the arrival of Shane Watson, who replaced Kusal Perera. The Australian allrounder missed Saturday's game against Daredevils and will be eager to get on the field.
Also making the cut are Shaun Tait and Dishant Yagnik. Kolkata, on the other hand, brought in Shami Ahmed in place of L Balaji.
For both teams, it will be their second match of the tournament. Both have beaten Delhi Daredevils in their opening matches. The difference is that while KKR are the defending champions, Royals are once again the underdogs.
