Ashwin scalps Davids after his fifty

NEW DELHI: Spinner R Ashwin gave Chennai crucial breakthrough by sending back Henry Davids just after he reached his fifty to give Titans second blow in the CLT20 match.

Davis scored 52 off 43 balls and shared 76-run stand for the second wicket with AB de Villiers before getting stumped in the 14th over at the score of 122.

After being put into bat and getting off to a good start, Titans lost opener Jacques Rudolph when he was run out.

The Davids-Rudolph duo put up a solid 46-run stand for the opening wicket right after Chennai Super Kings captain MS Dhoni won the toss and decided to bowl.

However, the party was shot-lived when a mix-up between Rudolph and Davids led to the former being run out for 21 runs.

Playing for the second time in front of his home crowd, Dhoni would know the importance of starting well in this competitive tournament after they failed to make the semifinals of the last edition in South Africa due to defeats in their first two encounters.

Two-time IPL champions, the Super Kings, boast of a star-studded line up with the likes of India skipper Dhoni, Murali Vijay, Faf du Plessis and Michael Hussey around whom the CSK batting will revolve.

On the other hand, the Titans, who are up against their teammates Albie Morkel and Plessis, would be well aware of their task in hands while playing one of the most successful franchise in T20 cricket.

The South African side will be buoyed by the presence of pacer Morne Morkel and AB De Villiers, and would bank on their valuable experience of the sub-continental condition to go the distance in this cash-rich league.
