NEW DELHI: After being put into bat, Brisbane Heat got off to a bad start as they lost quick wickets in their Champions League Twenty20 match at JSCA International Stadium Complex in Ranchi.

Mohit Sharma started the wicket-taking party when he had opener Dominic Michael (0) caught by Subramaniam Badrinath in the first over itself.

Albie Morkel then struck to dismiss Brisbane Heat skipper James Hopes (20) just before Ravindra Jadeja scalped Joe Burns (0) and Daniel Christian (3) in a single over.

Ravichandran Ashwin then rubbed more salt on the Brisbane wounds when he dismissed Chris Lynn, who hit 4 boundaries and a single six in his 29-run innings.

Earlier, Chennai Super Kings captain MS Dhoni won the toss and decided to bowl.

Chennai, IPL runners-up this year, are among the favourites to lift the Champions League for a second time after clinching the trophy in 2010.

And the sheer depth in the line-up was displayed on Thursday when Suresh Raina smashed a quickfire half-century while skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni produced a belligerent unbeaten knock of 63 for CSK to post a stunning 202 on the board against Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Brisbane, on the other hand, are all but eliminated from the competition. Handed defeats in the two matches they have played so far, Brisbane need to win on Saturday to stay alive in the event.

The depleted Australian outfit, which failed miserably with the bat in the games against Trinidad & Tobago and the Titans, will be expecting its batsmen to show more responsibility.
