'Table looks bleak for Manchester United'

MANCHESTER: Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick has conceded that the Premier League table does not make pleasant reading for him and his team-mates after the champions' faltering start to the season.

United were held to a 1-1 draw at home to Southampton on Saturday, leaving them eight points below leaders Arsenal and only four points above the relegation zone.

With just 11 points from eight games, United have made their worst start to a season for 24 years and Carrick says the players are desperate to turn the situation around.

"It is not easy reading now," said the England midfielder. "Looking at the table as it is now is not something we are used to. It is frustrating because things are not going the way we want.

"But as players we have to stand up, take responsibility and get better. We just have to keep believing.

"We are still confident. Everything is in place, but for some reason, at the moment, we are not quite clicking and not quite firing."
