NEW DELHI: Reeling under the South African pacers' assault, India were struggling with six wickets down in pursuit of a 280-run target in the second one-day international at Kingsmead in Durban on Sunday.

Scorecard

David Miller took a fine catch at short extra cover to dismiss Suresh Raina off Morne Morkel.

Quinton de Kock took a superb diving catch to dismiss Indian captain MS Dhoni off Vernon Philander.

Ajinkya Rahane was unlucky to be given out as there didn't seem to be an inside edge off his bat but he was given out caught behind by Quinton de Kock off Morne Morkel.

Hashim Amla took a brilliant catch at short mid-wicket to dismiss Rohit Sharma off Lonwabe Tsotsobe.

India got off to a bad start in their run chase as Shikhar Dhawan and Virat Kohli fell in successive overs.

Lonwabe Tsotsobe gave South Africa the second breakthrough when he had Kohli caught behind by Quinton de Kock for a fifth-ball duck in the fourth over.

Dale Steyn had Dhawan caught by JP Duminy at backward point for a second-ball duck in the third over.

Earlier, South African middle order failed to capitalise on centuries by openers Quinton de Kock and Hashim Amla to be restricted to 280/6.

South Africa got to the 280-run mark only because Ryan McLaren and Vernon Philander carted Umesh Yadav for 20 runs in the last over of their innings.

Mohammed Shami took his third wicket when he clean bowled Jacques Kallis in the penultimate over.

South Africa lost their fifth wicket when JP Duminy was run out by a good throw from deep mid-wicket by Umesh Yadav into the hands of captain MS Dhoni who ripped off the bails in a flash.

Shami dismissed Amla and David Miller in one over to reduce South Africa to 234/4.

Shami was lucky to get Miller dismissed leg before wicket as there was a clear inside edge onto the batsman's pads.

Shami had centurion Hashim Amla caught behind by captain MS Dhoni as South Africa lost their third wicket.

Amla tried to pull a short delivery from the outside of off-stump but the ball edged the toe end of the bat as Dhoni took a simple catch.

Amla's 12th ODI century came off 116 balls and this was his third century against India.

When he reached 59 in his 100-run knock, Amla became the fastest batsman to complete 4000 ODI runs.

Amla took 81 innings to get to the milestone beating Sir Vivian Richards who got to the landmark in 88 innings.

R Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja dismissed Quinton de Kock and AB de Villiers respectively.

De Kock smashed a 118-ball 106 before Ashwin had him caught by Rohit Sharma at square leg and in the next over Jadeja had De Villiers stumped by MS Dhoni.

De Kock hit his second successive century off 112 balls and added 194 runs with Hashim Amla for the first wicket.

De Kock and Amla once again laid a solid platform for their team that is already 1-0 up in this three-match series.

Both De Kock and Amla slammed their fifties off 57 balls bringing up South Africa's 50 in the tenth over, 100 in the 19th over and 150 in the 27th over.

The solid start came after Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni won the toss and decided to field first.

A wet outfield delayed the toss for the second one-dayer and it will be a 49 overs-a-side game.

"Yuvraj Singh is not fit as Ajinkya Rahane comes in place of the southpaw," Dhoni said after winning at the toss.

The Indian team has made three changes to the squad with an unfit Yuvraj Singh making way for Ajinkya Rahane in the batting department.

In the bowling changes, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Mohit Sharma have been replaced by Ishant Sharma and Umesh Yadav.

South Africa have brought in Vernon Philander in place of Wayne Parnell.

Teams:

India: Mahendra Singh Dhoni (Capt.), Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, Virat Kohli, Ajinkya Rahane, Suresh Raina, Ravindra Jadeja, R Ashwin, Ishant Sharma, Mohammed Shami, Umesh Yadav.

South Africa: AB de Villiers (Capt.), Hashim Amla, Quinton de Kock, Jacques Kallis, JP Duminy, David Miller, Ryan McLaren, Vernon Philander, Dale Steyn, Morne Morkel, Lonwabe Tsotsobe.
