Lumb, Moeen fall after explosive stand

NEW DELHI: After explosive start, England seemed to lose the plot as they lost quick wickets in their ICC World T20 match against New Zealand at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chittagong on Saturday.

After losing opener Alex Hales early, Michael Lumb and Moeen Ali put up a quick-fire 72-run partnership to stabalise the England innings.

However, the party was brought to an end by Corey Anderson when he had Ali (36) caught by Mitchell McClenaghan.

Soon after, the two New Zealand players exchanged sides when McClenaghan had Lumb (33) caught by Anderson to leave England at 77/3 after 9 overs.

Eoin Morgan and Jos Buttler then tried to revive the innings with a determined 27-run partnership for the 4th wicket; however, Tim Southee dismissed Morgan (12) to end that stand

Jos Buttler (32) was the next English casualty when he had his stumps knocked over by Anderson.

Earlier, England lost opener Hales to Kyle Mills in as soon as the first over.

Hales (0) was caught brilliantly by Anderson at mid-off after New Zealand skipper Brendon McCullum won the toss and decided to bowl against England.

While New Zealand head into the tournament fresh and pumped up after victories over India in Tests and ODIs, England have had disastrous encounters against Australia and the West Indies.

Talking about strengths, New Zealand will reply heavily on their batting with Martin Guptill, Ross Taylor, Brendon McCullum, Luke Ronchi and star Corey Anderson at their service.

England, on the other hand, have worries of their own due to the lack of form of Eoin Morgan and persistent knee problems that trouble captain Stuart Broad.
