Yuvraj leads Indian charge against Oz

NEW DELHI: Yuvraj Singh, along with skipper MS Dhoni, put up a solid partnership to lead India's run-charge against Australia in their ICC World T20 match at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur.

Scorecard

Yuvraj and Dhoni blasted the Australian bowlers to all parts of the ground to compensate India's bad start in their innings after being asked to bat first.

Brad Hodge provided Australia with their first breakthrough when he had Rohit Sharma caught in the first over itself after Australian captain George Bailey won the toss and decided to bowl.

Ajinkya Rahane and Virat Kohli then tried to revive the Indian innings when the duo put up a gritty 40-run partnership for the second wicket.

However, Doug Bollinger struck to dismiss Rahane (19) soon after James Muirhead got the prized wicket of Kohli (23) by having the Indian vice-captain caught by Cameron White at long-off.

Soon after, Suresh Raina (6) too returned back to the pavilion when the left-hander was scalped by Glenn Maxwell to leave the Indians reeling at 69/4 at the end of 12 overs.

India have made two changes for this inconsequential league match by brining in Rahane in place of Shikhar Dhawan and replacing Mohammed Shami by Mohit Sharma.

Australia, who bring in Cameron White in place of James Faulkner, have been knocked out of the tournament following Pakistan's comprehensive 50-run victory over Bangladesh earlier on Sunday.

On a roll after completing a hat-trick of victories, title contenders India would look to continue with their winning ways in the tournament against a struggling Australian team.

Having registered comprehensive wins against Pakistan, West Indies and Bangladesh in three successive matches to qualify for the semifinals, the confidence of the team is at an all-time high as they face George Bailey's Australia which has not done justice to their immense potential.

With back-to-back defeats against Pakistan and West Indies, the Australian team are all but out of the competition with a faint mathematical possibility that has kept them afloat and interested.

But for that to happen, George Bailey and his team first need to beat India by a comprehensive margin which looks a distant reality considering the current form of the two teams.

Team:

India: MS Dhoni (Capt. & wk), Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Yuvraj Singh, Suresh Raina, Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Amit Mishra, Mohit Sharma, Ajinkya Rahane.

Australia: George Bailey (captain), Aaron Finch, David Warner, Shane Watson, George Bailey, Glenn Maxwell, Brad Hodge, Mitchell Starc, Doug Bollinger, James Muirhead, Cameron White.
