NEW DELHI: Saina Nehwal started India's historic Uber Cup semifinal tie on a positive note as she won the first match against Japan's Mitani at the Siri Fort Complex on Friday.

India captain Saina won the match 21-12, 21-13 to help the hosts lead the tie 1-0.

Saina won the first game easily with 21-12 scoreline, but has to come from behind to win the second game 21-13.

In the second match, PV Sindhu fought back to win the second game 21-18 after losing the first game 19-21 against Japan's Takahashi.

The Hyderabadi diehard and her team of gutsy shuttlers made history on Thursday, taking India into the semifinals for the first time in modern era of the tournament with a 3-0 win over Indonesia.
