'Don't think Dutch can win World Cup'

Johan Cruyff is one of the greatest and most influential players in the history of football. The Flying Dutchman's opinion still carries a lot of weight. He is also associated with Total Football, a style which changed the course of football.

What are The Netherlands' chances this year?

I think they are less than normal. They have a good team but are very young, and we will have to see whether they are nervous or not. They will be better prepared in the next World Cup, which is in four years. But, they have got qualities and can be a surprise.

What are your own memories of 1974?

The first thing I know is that we lost and the second thing I know is that we played the best football in the world. We introduced a style of football that later on everyone copied. So I think if we look back it was a fantastic experience.

In 1974 final you won a penalty after two minutes. Maybe in this day and age Germany would have been playing with 10 men for 88 minutes?

Yeah but it's always after wards. There is a very importance sentence that I learned from the disabled people. The disabled people that do sport, they don't think about what they don't have but try to get better with what they do have. That is the same for me. We lost the game but just forget it and look at the beautiful things.

So if Holland aren't favourite this summer, who is?

I don't know, otherwise I would bet. Brazil are the favourites, Argentina are strong, Germany and Spain are still there. Spain have all the experience in the most important competitions. For me they are a great team. But the best candidate is Brazil, playing at home, and we saw what happened in the Confederations Cup last year, when Brazil beat them 3-0.

What do you think of England's chances?

I don't think England can win it, no. It is like the Dutch, I don't think they can win.
