"Those are the critical moments that a tennis player goes through in his mind during the course of a match," Djokovic said of the fourth set when Federer rallied to win from 2-5 down, pushing Sunday's Wimbledon final to the decider.
"He was playing better, the crowd got involved and suddenly the momentum had swung. It was important for me to start fresh in the fifth set. I could've easily lost my concentration in the fifth and given away the match to my opponent. But I didn't. I beat my opponent and in the end the doubts in my head."
The 27-year-old Serb, who had lost three successive Grand Slam finals, starting with the loss at SW19 twelve months ago, may have been shaken, but he was equally stirred.
Djokovic, tired of the runner-up speeches he has made in Grand Slam finals lately, was yearning for the sunny times of 2011 when he won 10 titles on the road, including three Grand Slams.
The wafer-thin Serb said his second Wimbledon title which came three years after he had won his first in 2011 was his 'most special' Grand Slam crown. "The timing of this win," Djokovic said, "coming after I lost three Grand Slam finals, when I was doubting myself, is what makes it special. I'm most proud of this trophy."
Djokovic, who shed tears of joy on Centre Court on Sunday, said, he was soaking in the moment.
"I was overwhelmed with the positive emotions I experienced in the match," he said, "I wasn't surprised with the result. This is the best quality Grand Slam final I've played been part of."
