Kolkata a step closer to ISL semis after draw with Delhi

NEW DELHI: Delhi Dynamos drew with Atletico De Kolkata (ATK) 0-0 in a match that had it's share of excitement at the Jawaharlal Nehru stadium on Tuesday.

The Dynamos, who were looking to notch up their third straight win, drew their fifth game of the season even as they were cheered by a strong home crowd who had come in numbers to see their team in action in their last home game.

The result means the Dynamos are still on fifth spot with 14 points whereas third-placed ATK moved a step closer to qualifying for the semifinals with 18 points. Delhi now face FC Pune City and Chennaiyin FC in the two away games.

Both teams made three changes to their starting elevens. Delhi Dynamos brought in Shouvik Ghosh, Souvik Chakraborty and Adil Khan for Munmun Lagun, Naoba Singh and Shylo Malsawmtluanga.

Alessandro Del Peiro, the Dynamos marquee player, once again found himself on the bench. Meanwhile, ATK replaced Nallappan Mohanraj, Luis Garcia, Mohammed Rafi with Biswajit Saha, Baljit Sahni and Ofentso Nato.

Delhi Dynamos dominated play for the first 15 minutes but from there on it was evenstevens as both teams created an equal number of chances.In the 10th minute, Souvik's aerial ball found Dos Santos near the box who tried to run past the defenders but ATK defence was too good for him.

Delhi came close to scoring again, in the 18th minute when Francis's pass found Mads Junker inside the box but his shot was deflected by the defender only to find Souvik. It took an excellent effort from the keeper Edel Bete to deny Souvik his first goal of the season.
