Divya, Sakshi share lead in State U-19 Chess tourney

NAGPUR: Chess prodigy Divya Deshmukh and Sakshi Chitlange shared the lead with five points each to their kitty at the end of the sixth round in the Maharashtra State U-19 Open Fide Rating Chess Championship at the Ambedkar College Hall here on Saturday.

In the sixth round on the top board, World Fide Master Divya outclassed Srishti Pandey to jump to joint lead. The nine-year-old city girl now share the lead with Sakshi, who accounted for Friday's sole leader Sonal Mandhana, who lost both her matches on Saturday to remain on four points.

In the boys section, Atharva Godbole emerged as the sole leader with six points under his belt. In the sixth round round, Atharva defeated Indrajeet Mahindrakar. Prasad Aurangabadkar and Nishit Singh sharing the second spot with 5.5 points each.

RESULTS (Round 6)

Girls: Divya Deshmukh (5) bt Srishti Pandey (4.5), Sonal Mandhana (4) lost to Sakshi Chitlange (5), Shweta Gole (4.5) bt Shalaka Pagay (3.5), Saloni Sapale (4) bt Narayani Adane (3), Khushi Gosavi (3) lost to Tanya Pandey (4).

Boys: Indrajeet Mahindrakar (5) lost to Atharva Godbole (6), Anish Gandhi (4.5) lost to Prasad Aurangabadkar (5.5), Nishit Singh (5.5) bt Ashutosh Dalal (4), Suyog Wagh (5) bt R Sai Shravan (4), Salil Deogade (5) bt Vaibhav Raut (4).
