PM Narendra Modi motivated me, says Mary Kom

NEW DELHI: Boxing star Mary Kom met Prime Minister Narendra Modi for 10 minutes on Wednesday and went back with an "experience to cherish for life". Mary Kom, who had gone to invite Modi for the inauguration of her boxing academy in Imphal, said she is now motivated to win even more medals.

"I had sought an appointment on Tuesday to invite him to my boxing academy .Surprisingly, I got a call from his office on Wednesday morning. I enjoyed every bit of his hospitality. He treated me like a daughter. He repeated what Barack Obama had said on Tuesday and motivated me to produce world champions at the academy," Mary told TOI.

"I told him that the academy, which will be ready by April, needs his blessings and that I would be very happy if he could find time to come to Manipur. He said, 'let me know when the academy is ready' and promised that he would try his best to help me," the mother of three said.

The London Olympics bronze medalist said that she went to Modi, because "he is the right person and a true hero". "I felt proud to meet him. It was like a dream come true. He promised all possible support for future and told me: 'This is your house, you are always welcome'," Mary said.
