Atharva, Narayani bag Nagpur District U-11 chess crowns

NAGPUR: Atharva Bhede in the open and Narayani Adane in the girls reigned supreme in the Nagpur District U-11 Open selection chess tournament, organized by the Nagpur District Chess Association, which concluded at the NIT Neighbourhood Centre, Surendra Nagar, here on Sunday.

Atharva, who was sharing the lead with top seed Saransh Jeswani and Kshitij Joshi on Saturday with four points each, displayed wonderful performance on Sunday in both the rounds to emerge champion.

Atharva outwitted Abhishek Ekre in the sixth and final round to take his points tally to 5.5 to clinch the crown. On the other hand on the top board, Saransh was held to a draw by Kshitij Mudliar. Saransh and Kshitij Joshi finished with five points each.

In the girls section, Narayani downed Sharanya Adane in the fourth and last round. Unbeaten Narayani finished with four points pipping Riddhi Palorkar (3.5) to the second spot.

Open: 1. Atharva Bhede (5.5 points), 2. Saransh Jeswani (5), 3. Kshitij Joshi (5), 4. Kshitij Mudliar (4.5), 5. Arnav Kherdekar (4), 6. Abhishek Ekre (4), 7. Mayank Ranade (4), 8. Yash Taori (4).

U-11 Girls: 1. Narayani Adane (4 points), 2. Riddhi Palorkar (3.5), 3. Krishna Maheshwari (3), 4. Sharanya Adane (2.5), 5. Aashi Dalal (2), 6. Sakshi Lanjewar (2).
