According to sources, the mother was brought to the hospital in the morning after she complained of labour pain. She was soon shifted to the labour room.
Due to certain complications, however, she was eventually taken to the operation theatre where the baby was born. Sakshi's mother and mother-in-law were both present in the hospital at the time of the birth.
"The baby weighs about two kilogram and is healthy. The mother is also fine," said a family friend. The family, however, refused to give details.
Though Dhoni, who is in Australia with the Indian team, was given the good news over the phone, he hadn't reacted to it till late in the night.
With only about a week to go for the World Cup in Australia, Dhoni is in the middle of final preparations for the mega event. It was not yet known if he will be making a dash to India to see the baby before action begins in the World Cup on February 14. India face Pakistan in their first match at Adelaide on February 15.
"The baby's photos have been sent to the dad. The family doesn't want to share them with the media as of now. The Dhoni family doesn't like to talk to the media about personal matters," the family friend told TOI.
Dhoni married in 2010. Mother and baby will be discharged from hospital in three days.
