Ahead of the start of the Games, BI had instructed all affiliated state units not to send their boxers to the event owing to the IOA 's refusal to grant the body recognition.
The boxing events are scheduled to be held from February 6-13 at the Thriprayar indoor stadium in Thrissur Gujarat State Olympic Association secretary Indravadan Nanavati was categorical about defying the national federation's call.
"We refuse to toe BI's line in this regard. Our boxers (4 male, 3 female) have already reached Kerala and they will participate in their respective events. We cannot allow players to suffer because of a standoff between two administrative bodies," he said, before adding, "BI's threat of expelling non-compliant units is a hollow one. If they cast away all their members, how will they run the body?"
Joining the chorus are the likes of Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Manipur and Bengal state associations, among others, who are in agreement over the matter. Haryana State Boxing Association (HSBA) secretary Rakesh Thakran said non-participation in the event would deny deserving boxers handsome cash awards and possible government jobs.
