If everything goes according to the script in the Yonex Sunrise India Open Superseries starting at the Siri Fort Complex from March 24, top seed Saina may end up facing second seed Carolina in the title showdown. After four years of total Chinese supremacy, Saina and Carolina will fight to be world No. 1 since Tine Baun earned the rank in 2010.
Saina and Carolina, the youngest European world champion ever at 21, should cruise till the quarterfinal stage where the former is likely to meet Pai Yu Po of Chinese Taipei, while the Spaniard could take on sixth seed Okuhara Nozomi of Japan.
World No.1 Li Xuerui and world No. 3 Wang Shixian have decided to skip the India Open but World No.8 Ratchanok Intanon of Thailand, who won the women's singles title in 2013, will be in the fray.
PV Sindhu, ranked No. 8, will also be missing the action because of injury.
In the men's competition, Lin Dan will carry China's flag in the absence of world No. 1 Chen Long. All England runner up Jan O Jorgensen (No. 2), India's best bet Kidambi Srikanth and Denmark's Viktor Axelsen will ensure a tough contest.
Srikanth has a tricky opener against Tanongsak opener against Tanongsak Saensomboonsuk of Thailand and could meet his All England conqueror, Kento Momota of Japan, in the second round.
Third seed and five-time world champion Lin Dan has been placed in the top half and will open his campaign against Chinese Taipei's Tzu Wei Wang.
Top seed Jan O Jorgensen will open his campaign against Japan's Sho Sasaki but would be looking forward to the possibility of an all Danish clash in the quarterfinals against former junior world champion and sixth seed Viktor Axelsen.
In the women's doubles, Jwala and Ashwini have a tough task of getting the better of sixth seed Chinese pair of Ou Dongni and Xiaohan Yu.
