Lokhande, Chati help RBI 'A' triumph at Inter-Bank Badminton

NAGPUR: Pranav Lokhande and Raghavendra Chati justified their sports quota recruitment by helping Reserve Bank of India (RBI) win the maiden Inter-Bank Badminton tournament title at the Robertson YMCA Hall here on Monday.

In the final between two RBI teams, RBI 'A' defeated their counterparts RBI 'B' 2-0 to clinch the title.

One of the best Nagpur district shuttlers, Lokhande outclassed Kapeesh Nahak to provide his team a flying start. In the doubles, the pair of Lokhande and Chati prevailed over Nahak and Vijay Kohad to complete the formalities.

Earlier in the semifinals, RBI 'A' blanked Bank of India 2-0, while RBI 'B' brushed aside State Bank of India 'A'.

In a major upset, champions of last so many years, Bank of Maharashtra, were knocked out in the quarterfinal itself by RBI 'B'.

RESULTS

Team championship final: RBI 'A' bt RBI 'B' 2-0 (Pranav Lokhande bt Kapeesh Nahak 21-10, 21-13; Pranav Lokhande-Raghavendra Chati bt Kapish Nahak-Vijay Kohad 21-9, 21-13).

Semifinals: RBI 'A' bt BOI 2-0 (Pranav Lokhande bt Shrikant Pendse 21-4, 21-8; Raghavendra Chati-Devashish Datta bt Kejwani-Panse 21-6, 21-11). RBI 'B' bt SBI 'A' 2-0.

Women's singles: Shweta Pandit (RBI) BT Varsha Lade (BOM) 21-2, 21-3; Vishakha Zodape (RBI) bt Pallavi Meshram 21-3, 21-4.

Final: Shweta Pandit (RBI) bt Vishakha Zodape 21-5, 21-3.
