MONACO: Kazakh pugilist Gennady Golovkin made it 32 wins from 32 professional bouts on Saturday as he retained his WBA middleweight world title when the referee called time on British opponent Martin Murray's challenge in the 11th round in Monte Carlo.

Golovkin, 32 and nicknamed '3G', was recording his 29th victory inside the distance against a valiant opponent, who took the champion the longest distance since his first defence of the belt in June 2011.

The Kazakh, making his 13th successful defence, pounded Murray throughout the fight forcing the referee to give him three counts.

For Murray, who received vociferous support from around 200 Britons, it was his second defeat in 32 bouts, with 29 wins -- 12 by knockout -- and one draw.
